StarFighter

A serious workstation. Built for Linux.

A Linux-first workstation engineered around configurable firmware, real hardware controls, and long-term ownership — with direct support from the people who build it.

Intel Core Ultra and AMD Ryzen configurations.

Workstation performance

Powerful where it matters. Quiet when it can be.

The StarFighter is tuned for compiling, virtual machines, containers, and sustained workloads — with firmware, thermals, and power behaviour engineered for consistent high performance over long sessions.

Not a gaming laptop with Linux added afterwards, but a workstation designed as a complete Linux system.

Optimised for sustained performance.

High benchmark scores are easy. Sustained performance under real workloads is harder.

Display QHD 165Hz and 4K 120Hz matte display options.
Memory 32GB and 64GB LPDDR5X configurations.
Control Firmware-level fan, thermal, and power tuning.
StarFighter internal cooling assembly

Cooling you can tune.

Power profiles, fan behaviour, and thermal limits can be adjusted directly in firmware for tighter control over acoustics and performance.

The invisible bits, made visible

Firmware is part of the product.

Firmware configuration, updates, and platform integration are developed in-house by a small UK-based team working close to the coreboot and EDK II ecosystems.

The result is a shorter path from firmware to Linux desktop: configurable controls, signed updates, measured boot, and development that stays visible over time.

01 Power on The machine starts from firmware you can inspect and configure.
02 Root of trust Signed updates and firmware protections reduce tampering risk.
03 Hardware setup Firmware-level controls for fan, webcam, security, and boot behaviour.
04 Linux boots Modern Linux distributions work normally, without vendor software or custom workarounds.
05 Updates continue Firmware updates are delivered directly through Linux via LVFS.

Linux without vendor drivers

Ships ready. Reinstall freely.

The StarFighter is designed around standard Linux behaviour, so modern distributions work normally — without vendor driver bundles, patched installers, or custom workarounds.

Install the distribution you want, reinstall later if you choose, and keep using the standard Linux ecosystem.

Star Labs standard Linux path

1
Choose your distribution

Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Arch, and other modern Linux distributions are supported.

2
Install normally

Use the standard installer and update process from your chosen distribution.

3
Stay independent

No driver packages, hidden recovery accounts, or vendor utilities required.

Ownership built into the hardware

The details are physical.

The engineering philosophy is visible in the hardware: physical controls, replaceable parts, and security features that remain accessible over time.

StarFighter wireless kill switch on the chassis

Wireless kill switch

Disable wireless hardware directly.

StarFighter M.2 storage being accessed inside the chassis

Built-in disk encryption

Enable hardware-backed disk encryption without reinstalling.

StarFighter removable webcam module

Firmware controls

Fan, power, security, and boot behaviour configurable before Linux loads.

StarFighter internal cooling, storage, and battery layout

Accessible internals

Cooling, storage, and components designed to remain accessible.

Integrated system design

Engineered as one system.

Integrated LPDDR5X memory improves efficiency, lowers latency, and helps maintain consistent performance across sustained workloads.

It also reduces power consumption and allows a more compact internal layout for cooling and battery capacity.

StarFighter processor and on-board memory

Choose the StarFighter that fits your work

Standard or Ultra.

Start with the Standard configuration for the core StarFighter experience, or move to Ultra for the Core Ultra 9 processor, 4K 120Hz display with 10kHz PWM dimming, 64GB memory, Encrypted Memory (TME), and the broadest security feature set.

Standard

Most users

The balanced StarFighter configuration: high-performance Intel Core Ultra hardware, coreboot firmware, privacy controls, and a high-refresh matte display.

Processor
Intel Core Ultra 5 125H
Display
QHD 165Hz matte display with strong brightness and smooth motion.
Best for
A premium Linux workstation without paying for every top-end option.

Choose this if you want the StarFighter hardware experience with a sensible default specification.

Ultra

Maximum specification

The highest-spec StarFighter configuration, built around Core Ultra 9 headroom, a 4K 120Hz display with 10kHz PWM dimming, 64GB memory, and the widest security feature set.

Processor
Intel Core Ultra 9 285H
Display
4K 120Hz matte display with 10kHz PWM dimming and the highest-resolution StarFighter panel.
Best for
Long-term performance headroom, 64GB LPDDR5X, Encrypted Memory (TME) support, and the broadest security feature set.

Choose this if you want the most capable StarFighter specification we offer.

Both configurations run modern Linux distributions and are fully supported by Star Labs.
