We're thrilled to announce the release of our latest update, marking the most significant leap forward in our journey. In line with coreboot's new versioning format, we're adopting the YY.MM structure, starting with our latest 24.02 release. This change reflects our commitment to staying at the forefront of technology and user needs.
What's New?
The headline feature of this update is our transition to compiling our EC firmware with SDCC, an open-source compiler, replacing Keil. This shift aligns with our commitment to open-source principles and advances us one step closer to sharing our EC code under GPL2, opening up new possibilities for community engagement and contributions.
Here's What You Can Look Forward to in 24.02:
We encourage all our coreboot users to embrace this update and explore the new features and improvements. 24.02 is now available for installation from the LVFS.

]]>One of our major priorities is to ensure our hardware is compatible with as many Operating Systems as possible. While the coreboot-configurator worked well for most distributions, we realized that depending on a separate program to change settings was not ideal. Thus, after extensive work, we've transitioned to CFR.
Upon updating to version 8.50
or higher, a new feature awaits you - the Advanced Configuration. This menu includes all the options you've grown accustomed to, mirroring the functionalities of a conventional BIOS.
The options are now stored in coreboot's SMM Store, instead of CMOS. While this shift doesn't change how you use them, it paves the way for future enhancements. Unlike CMOS variables, these options can have attributes such as read-only, write-protected, and more. This opens up possibilities for secure features like Secure Boot and BIOS Lock.

Firmware updates for all. Our latest open source firmware release 8.05, powered by coreboot 4.17, is now available to download for the majority of our laptops.
Along with the usual foray of bug fixes, 8.05 arrives with a new security feature; Measured Boot (available on specific models). Boot times have been significantly reduced with lower timeout when initialising specific devices, and through "lz4" compressing a few key firmware components. There are also many other improvements, which can be found below and in the coreboot history.

Lightweight, open source firmware. We have started work on porting coreboot to the Lite Mk III. The process is complex, involving hours of configuration and testing. As soon as its ready, we will be releasing a beta version.

Fast, secure and free; Its here for the LabTop Mk III. Following the successful release of coreboot for the LabTop Mk IV we are excited to announce its arrival for the LabTop Mk III. Delivering a lightning-fast and secure boot experience whilst allowing for maximum hardware control.
Along with dark-style preference, multi-touch gestures have been a greatly anticipated addition to elementary OS 6. Promising to provide smooth, responsive animations that track 1:1 with your finger movement across a touchpad or touch screen.
Open-source firmware. coreboot is a firmware platform that delivers a lightning-fast and secure boot experience. As an Open-Source project, it allows the maximum level of control over your hardware. With the TianoCore payload, this Open-Source ensemble comes together to create a fast, free, secure yet familiar UEFI boot.
An alternative way of charging. The USB-C to 3mm DC Jack braided charge cable connects the USB-C Power Adapter to the DC Jack on the LabTop Mk IV for charging up to 60W. Similar to the USB-C 3.1 charge cable, this is available both in 2-metre and 5-metre lengths.
Two or Five Metres? Regardless of how far away you are from a plug socket, we have you covered. These braided cables support USB 3.1, allowing data transfer speeds up to 10 Gb/s, DisplayPort video output and power delivery for charging up to 60W.
The legacy continues. The Lite has always been revered for perfectly balancing power, weight and portability. The Star Lite Mk III has been forged to continue this legacy, whilst improving on usability with an Arc display, a matte display that has both a 21% Haze and a hard coat which boasts both durability and glare-free viewing.
